The Rockefeller Group was looking to step up their Earth Week engagement with their tenants and building staff. To build a story that people would find interesting, we embraced the newest “tenant” — a 30,000+ bee colony — and its installation on the building’s setback terrace. With bee messaging displayed as tenant facts, we designed a gallery of artful bee boxes with details and images of the important insects throughout the lobbies of the two midtown office buildings.

To further elevate the Earth Week experience, Brand Ambassadors were on hand to answer questions about the colony and provide local bakery honey-based treats, including a custom honey-glazed donut for Rockefeller Group, as well as collections for e-recycling and other initiatives.

The tenants of the building were invited to name the bee colony, and as part of the sustainability initiative, a local beekeeper is working with organizations to secure the bee boxes with a second life. Produced in a way that allows them to be used to produce honey, the display boxes will house bee colonies in the tri-state area, adding to the Earth Week story.
